The awareness of the need to have a lower environmental impact has therefore affected both our production processes and our entrepreneurial vision. Providing aesthetically and high quality products with a low environmental impact is now a must that we guarantee to customers and partners all over the world.
One of the most interesting materials in this field is certainly PET.
PET, a recyclable and environmentally friendly material
PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a material derived from petroleum, natural gas. It is a synthetic material which, due to its characteristics, is widely used in the food, cosmetics and pharmacological industries. One example of this is its use to make beverage bottles.
The environmental friendliness of PET is mainly due to two factors:
- Its total recyclability: it can be recycled and reprocessed indefinitely without losing its characteristics. But that's not all! Objects made from recycled PET result in considerable energy savings. Just think that only half the energy needed to recycle pet is needed to obtain it from scratch.
- Its chemical structure, consisting only of oxygen, carbon and hydrogen, means that only water, carbon dioxide and oxygen are released in the event of burning.
The advantages of using PET have been clear since its creation and, over time, it has gained ground in various product sectors. In recent years, it has also been integrated into the furniture industry in response to green requirements.
The production of green kitchens using PET has led to a minor revolution. In this sector, PET is the only real alternative to the use of other less environmentally friendly materials.
The advantages of PET for a green and economical Gieffe kitchen
PET is used in kitchens for the production of doors as well as shelves. Its versatility and easy processing means it can be used widely.
Processing is done by applying 0.25 mm thick PET sheets to wooden panels. Applied using heat- and moisture-resistant polyurethane glue, the PET panels give the kitchen elements great strength. PET's chemical properties also make it an outstanding material for all hygiene-conscious environments. It does not emit any toxic substances and is completely safe for health.
Its mechanical resistance to scratches is also high, as is its resistance to heat and humidity. In short, it is a material that competes without a doubt with the best-known solutions.
Melamine, wood veneer or lacquered doors are direct alternatives to PET doors, which are, however, better in several respects:
- Unlike melamine doors, they do not have corner joints and are therefore more resistant.
- Unlike lacquered doors, they are not affected by scratches and are easier to clean.
- Unlike veneered wood, they are less expensive.
A Gieffe green kitchen with PET doors will cost slightly more than a laminate kitchen. However, it remains one of the best solutions in terms of value for money.
